28 Feb SPRI..(*n**)….G FORWARD>>>>
With all of this Snow I was hoping to put a little “Spring” into spring. Maybe if we start to prepare it will be here before you know it. Yeah….right… After the 10″ of snow headed here this weekend. Although I am not alone in my woes of the frozen tundra so here are a few little tips to keep the warm weather on your mind and all the while make your outdoors more beautiful.
Let me start out by saying I LOVE SPRAY PAINT! I think maybe for any of you who have seen my work, if something is not nailed down, I will change the color like Houdini! (It might be nailed down too…) Anyway, I love to bring new life with color to objects using spray paint. You can be as creative as you want and change an entire space for just a few dollars!
I prefer Kraylon. It delivers brilliant color, precise application, less over-spray, improved hide and dries in 10 minutes or less. It’s the perfect choice for both indoor and outdoor projects. This can be found in any Home Improvement store. So, before I make the world a rainbow, I just wanted to give you a few DIY tips to Spruce up a backyard with out breaking the bank and looking like Just another typical back yard.
If you are feeling REALLY energetic you can start by Spray Painting any old Chairs. These can be ones you have currently or you find at a thrift store, garage sale or garbage! (I LOVE ME SOME GARBAGE FINDS!)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the look of a natural wood table and pops of color for the chairs.
This works for any back yard and really brings some fun and whimsy to a seemingly drab space. It makes its own statement and hopefully says PPAAAAARRRTTTAYYYY!
Chairs can be done with ANY color. It is up to you to set the tone…no color is off limits.
BLAST FROM THE PAST…This Palm Beach Style Bamboo Furniture is not only making a HUGE comeback but can be found in MANY homes, garages, or donation spots. I think everyone of our grandparents had something like this in some way, shape or form. By breathing life back to it and giving it a coat of color makes it very current. You can find standard cushions to fit at any Target, Home Depot, Lowes, Homegoods, etc…if the original set is tattered. People ask me all the time about reupholstering outdoor cushions. My advice is they are so affordable today, and have such a variety to choose from now, it is not worth the expense to re-cover.
Now, if getting into a full weekend of spraying with the furniture is not your thang, lets just add a few fun colors on your neutral and drab furniture with Outdoor Pillows! They will be everywhere this spring but be ready…they go fast. They can be purchased also at the aforementioned retail stores. They also add the perfect pop of color and you can mix and match many coloration’s together.
Another way to bring beautiful drama (if there is such a thing) is to add fabric outside. Curtains provide a sense of privacy, elegance and color. They really make quite a statement and sraw your eye to the whole space, not just your central focal area. I love these Sunbrella Fabric Panels. Angela Rose Interiors (on Etsy) is my go-to Girl for all my window panel (and pillow) needs. She is a fantastic seamstress and her work has been in House Magazine.
Back to my favorite thing…SPRAY PAINTING! Once again…Nothing is off limits. This is just an accessory tutorial to add that summery splash of fun and color. Think Fiesta when you are accessorizing your outdoors.
Flower Pots and planters are a GREAT way to add color and you can even be a little creative with them. Use painters tape to make designs before you spray them. This adds a little texture and pattern to the space.
Lanterns are the same. Everyone has old lanterns that have been on their patio for far too long. They are full of rust and old leaves. Take out the glass, clean them off and Light up their life!
As I said before NOTHING IS OFF LIMITS. I will spray YOU if you are at my house and I feel like you need it. Mason Jars make for a quick table “spruce me up”. Add some fresh cut flowers and vio’la!
DON’T TREAD ON ME! Lastly, one of the most interesting ways to add color and pull an entire space together is with an Outdoor rug. Outdoor Rugs have become a little more “Outdoor Friendly” in the past few years. They originally were made of heavy Sisal and would hold water and eventually get moldy and musty. Luckily the manufacturers got smart and started to make them out of straws from recycled plastic. So not only are they beautiful, they are sustainable and Eco-Friendly too. 🙂 It is a perfect way to bring a gathering space to a designated area.
Lastly, if you have an outdoor carpet that is in good shape but just doesn’t have that pop of punch you want for the outdoor space, take a look at this little trick! This is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a while….
DIY… Make your own carpet! This comes from Royal Design Studios. www.royaldesignstudio.com They have the coolest stencils and applications I have seen in a while. Much like indoor rugs, outdoor rugs can be custom-designed, but these can cost close to a fortune! For a fraction of the cost, DIYers have created custom looks on plain rugs with Royal Design Studio stencils that ensure a beautiful, graphic impact! Best of all, YOU choose the design style you love via the myriad of stencil patterns available! SPRAY PAINTER DREAM!
I would love to see any and all your outdoor space transformations. I hope this helped inspire you to make your outdoor living more inviting, interesting and fun! If nothing else, maybe I just got your mind off this winter weather that is lingering like a bad diaper for a few minutes! Happy Spring Ya’ll!
